Gymnasium Herrnhut with spectacular roof construction

Herrnhut is a town rich in tradition in the Saxon district of Görlitz in the beautiful landscape of Upper Lusatia. The Zinzendorf High School looks back on a long school tradition and has only recently received a new main building. Now, a new gymnasium has also recently been inaugurated, which is just as convincing due to its architectural sophistication as it is due to its technically high-quality equipment.

The engineering team NEUERbaut: Architekten from Berthelsdorf had come up with something very special for the roof structure. A roof supporting structure in a sophisticated timber framework construction, just as carpenters erected large utility buildings hundreds of years ago. The hall roof is correspondingly impressive as soon as you look up. The huge truss construction spanning the room gives the gymnasium the appearance of a cathedral. The hall is constructed as a single-story double-floor hall, in which various sports can be practiced side by side. The equipment and material rooms are located on the long sides of the hall.

In view of the special design, they were looking for a sports floor that met the highest aesthetic demands and was also very functional. The contract for the sports floor was awarded to HARO Sports Flooring with the Helsinki 10-10 sports floor in dark African oak. The functional rooms were fitted with the same floor in ash. Almost 1,300 square meters were laid by the Kladivo joinery within six weeks.
